About Us

Voltra Energy is building the operating system for tomorrow's electrical grid - a unified energy cloud platform that allows any energy asset, such as an EV, chargers, decentralized energy resource (DERs), and micro-grids, to seamlessly connect and work together. We're tackling one of the most critical challenges of our generation: coordinating and managing the massive increase in electricity demand coming with widespread electrification. Our current product focus revolves around the EV space, and building a connection layer that allows these vehicles, chargers, and networks to seamlessly interact and share data across both themselves and other DERs.

Why Voltra?

We're a startup founded by ex-Waterloo engineers taking a first-principles approach in an industry dominated by bloated slow moving companies and terrible software. We're young, move fast, break things, and take risks. We all come from very different backgrounds and companies, but are unified through our intense passion and interest in energy and technology. We love working with co-ops, as all of our our core team have done UW coops themselves, and strive for a perfect balance of self-direction and mentorship - you are not just an intern, you a critical member of our core team.

We are a very tight-knit team, and are very self-driven in the work that we do. We make decisions as a team, but act on them independently - there's no such thing as a stupid question or a ridiculous idea here. We are building an entirely new type of software, and that means taking an entirely new approach to how things are designed at every stage. We strongly believe that innovation and growth come from being open to all perspectives and creating an environment for everyone to contribute their thoughts and opinions, no matter how unconventional they might seem.

Join us as we challenge the status quo with cutting edge technology and engineering.

What you will be doing

As a Software Engineer at Voltra, you'll work on building the core backend infrastructure that powers our energy platform. From designing scalable APIs and services to developing real-time device management systems, you'll tackle complex distributed systems challenges with clean, maintainable code. Our team ships fast and values technical excellence - you'll have the chance to work on everything from database architecture to protocol standardization as we build the foundation for next-generation energy infrastructure.
